Happy holidays to the readers of this blog! I hope everyone has been enjoying the festive season.
As the final days of this turbulent year draw nearer and social media feeds pile up with end-of-the-year lists, I decided to weigh in (like everyone else) with a review of my reading in 2014. 2014 is a bit of a milestone for me in terms of my reading habits. It was the year in which I graduated and found so much more time for reading. It was also the year in which I discovered BookTube and entered the book blogging community, taking the plunge with this blog along with a Tumblr-based companion blog.
According to Goodreads, this year, I’ve read about 58 books, which I’ve posted below. I’ve also highlighted some of my favourites (with more than a few appearances made by the brilliantly witty Oscar Wilde) and least favourites if you’re interested.
Favourites (in alphabetical order):
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
- The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
- Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
- The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
- The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
- The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
- Lady Windermere’s Fan by Oscar Wilde
- Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie
- Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
- The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
- The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis
- Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
Dislikes (in alphabetical order):
- The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
- Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
- Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

And with that, I hope everyone enjoys the last few days of 2014, while looking forward to the new year. Thanks for reading!

I read God of Small Things in 2012 and it’s one of my all-time favourites!
It’s great to see that you liked it,as it not so quite known. If you loved it that much, then I recommend The Inheritance of Loss, the winner of the Booker Prize 2006,by Kiran Desai!
The Picture of Dorian Gray is another favourite of mine.
I also read Brave New World which was somewhat very insightful.
And you have so many books in your favourites that I plan to read, such as Midnight’s Children,Of Mice and Men,Fahrenheit 451 or Catcher in the Rye!
